History of London Eye

Built in between the year of 1998 and 2000, London Eye was intended to stand for a shorter duration. However, having proved to be one of the popular attractions of the place, it has been turned into a permanent fixture on the skyline of the city. Though, the official opening ceremony of the London Eye was held in the year of 1999, but due to some technical issues it was not open for public view until March 2000.

Architecture & Design of London Eye

There are 32 capsules on the London Eye which are air-conditioned, sealed and attached to the outer side of the Eye. Each of them represents the Boroughs of London, but they are numbered from 1 to 33 since they have excluded number 13 due to the superstition of bad luck. This masterpiece was designed by famous architects Nic Bailey, Frank Anatole, Steve Chilton, Mark Sparrowhawk, David Marks, Julia Barfield and Malcolm Cook.

London Eye travels at the speed of 0.6 miles per hour, which means you can complete a ride in 30 minutes.
