Roman Colosseum (Italy)

The Colosseum in Rome is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. This ancient gladiatorial arena in Italy has about 50,000 seats. With beautiful architecture, it gives a glimpse of the atmosphere when the gladiators used to fight with animals and also with each other. The whole structure has deep roots with underground complexes. These underground complexes are called hypogeum and were used to keep the caged animals.

History of Roman Colosseum

Also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, the place was started in AD 80 for the very first time. However, the construction was started by Emperor Vespasian in a time around AD 69 to 79. After his death, his son Titus ensured the completion of the structure. The inauguration games were held to celebrate, during which more than 5000 animals were killed.

 Facts about Roman Colosseum

1) It was built over the span of 10 years by Roman Emperor Vespasian who was the founder of the Flavian dynasty.

2) The original structure had more than 80 entrances and 36 trap doors for special effects.

3) Elliptical in shape, it is 189 meters long and 156 m wide.

4) More than 100,000 cubic meters of travertine stone was used to build its outer wall.

Architecture of Colosseum

1) The exterior structure

The marvelous exterior wall of the Flavian Amphitheatre has a unique oval shape. The grand structure of 186 meters length and 156 meters width makes it mesmerizing. A big section of the outer wall collapsed in 1349 due to many earthquakes. The remains somehow enhance the beauty of the overall outer structure. There are four locations of getting inside the structure.

2) The interior structure

The basic idea behind the Colosseum in Rome was to embrace the games and get entertained. Hence, the interior of the structure was designed for both the general public as well as the emperors. The distance between the royalty and the public can be seen in the interior. The boxes and high platforms were constructed for the royalties. The names of the senators are still readable, which shows that the platforms were reserved for senators and royalties. The whole seating arrangement is divided into three levels. The first level includes the reserved places for emperors. Then, there is second level is for the noble families of Rome. After that, the stairs are there that were used for the more than 50,000 members of the public. The remains clearly introduce visitors to the glimpse of old lavishness and architectural beauty of the Roman Imperial time period.

3) The underground complex

Below the arena, there is a long chain of rooms and cages in an underground complex. Also known as hypogeum, the underground complex was used to keep the gladiators and wild animals. The tunnels were used to bring the gladiators to the arena.

Armaankohli's 6 days trip to Rome

Firstly thanks to Mr PRASHANT and SHUBHAM from hubholiday . It was our honeymoon Trip ,and we had an unforgettable trip to Italy. Everything was taken care of by Shubham And Prashant from HubHoliday. Shubham was extremely helpful and managed the entire bookings/Itinerary pretty well. Hotel Property Were really Great and at good Location . It was an unforgettable memory of my life . We have booked the jet airways flights , but before our travel jet airways flights cancelled , Mr Prashant called the airlines and booked ethihad flights with no extra charge . A special note to Hub Holiday team - Prashant and Shubham who were 24*7 available on phone and never left a stone unturned to address my query or provide guidance as and when I required. Shubham worked really hard on understanding our requirements and went through several iterations to give us the best possible plan. Truly speaking, we couldn't have created one like this ourselves. We were booked at centrally located 3/4 star hotels and had all the transfers included. We wanted to keep our schedule relatively relaxed, so were given bookings on cruises, day passes which included free public transportation & entry to some of the spots, hop on-hop off city tours which gave us a lot of flexibility and still let us see the best that the city had to offer. We we're quite confused in the beginning as to how the itinerary will be and what are the best places to visit in Europe .Shubham has guided us to go to italy as italy was within our budget . Audi cars were provided for pick up and drops!!A big Thanks to Shubham , Prashant and your team for providing the excellent arrangement and support throughout the trip.I would love to have another trip with HubHoliday in future.

Kadambri's 6 days trip to Rome

The overall experience was really good.we had a great time in all the three cities.Things moved as per our planned iternary. However would like to share few experiences so as your team can keep this in mind for any other travelers.first experienxe-the driver who came to pick us up looked little irritated as he had to wait for quite sometime.Though our flight arrived on time but I guess he came there an hour before and thus had to wait long but with no fault of ours. Second I-I believe planning a visit to Venice itself makes Gondola ride inevitable. It is a kind of experience which every traveler looks forward to.I would suggest to keep it a private tour instead of a shared tour so that the experience goes at par with expectations.I would suggest to prediscuss this with each traveler and then take it forward accordingly and customize if need be.Rest all was really good, the services and responses from the agent were very prompt and supportive .Thanks for making it so beautiful..Will definitely like to take your services in future as well Visit to Vatican city, florence -tower of pisa and so many others

Gaurav's 7 days trip to Rome

Thank you @ Mr Rajat from hubholiday. Our trip to Italy was planned very nicely and with comfort as well. Hotels he selected were near to each and every station. Itenary was planned in a manner where we had time to rest at night but covered all iconic spots of the city. Mr Rajat was very helpful in timely informing about the corona issue, which was very important for me and my family to know about this outbreak of news. I would recommend from my personnel experience Mr Rajat from HubHoliday to plan tour and holidays.
