History of Bangalore Palace states that the palace area was purchased in 1873 by the guardians of Chamaraja Wadiyar and construction began in 1874 with Windsor Castle in his mind. John Cameron landscaped the palace and surrounding areas. Initial construction was completed in 1878 and successive additions and renovations have been carried out since.
