Munnar’s rolling hills are a sight to behold for any traveler and creates the perfect scenic charm. On a holiday here, you can enjoy the shades of green in this hill town where you will find mist clinging to the mountains. This charming hill town makes for the perfect weekend escapade for tourists. If you are wondering how to reach Munnar, the state highways and national highways in the hilly area of Munnar connect this town to all other parts of South India.

As such, there is no railway station or airport in this hilly escapade itself. However, there are several famous railway stations and airports nearby. This ensures that you can reach this destination with ease. Private cabs and state-run buses are available with ease so you don’t need to worry how to travel from these railway stations and airports to the city of Munnar.

By Air

Munnar has no airport of its own, however, the Cochin International Airport is close by. By road, it is approximately 110 kilometers away. The other nearest airport to Munnar is the Madurai International Airport. This airport is around 140 kilometers away by road. You can easily get a taxi or cab from either of the airports to Munnar and a normal taxi fare costs around Rs 3000. You will have to pay an additional premium of 15-25 per cent to account for night charges (7 PM-6 AM).

By Train

As Munnar does not have a railway station, you will have to travel to the nearest station, Aluva. This is around 110 kilometers from this city. You can also travel to Ernakulam, that is around 130 kilometers away. If you are traveling to this station, you can get down at either Ernakulam Town (North) or Ernakulam Junction (South). This is one of the major railway stations of Kerala and is considered one of the A1 graded stations in the Southern Railways.

The other closest station is Madurai which is about 135 kilometers away. These stations are all operated by the Southern Railway zone of the Indian Railways and falls under the arena of the Thiruvananthapuram railway division. You can always take a taxi from these stations till Munnar for around 2500 rupees. Book a pre-paid taxi or cab well in advance to avoid any hassles when you reach here.

By Road

Munnar has a well-established road network and it is easy to travel from this hill town to other parts of the state. You can board regular buses from the bus station at the main bazaar here. There are direct regular buses start from 6 am. A fun way to travel in this town is by hiring a car so that you can enjoy the beautiful views whilst breathing in the cool mountain breeze. If you drive from Munnar to Ernakulam, it will take you around 4.5 hours and if you drive from Munnar to Thekkady, it takes around 4 hours.

GIVING 3 STARS AS TRAVEL TRIANGLE IS NOT SUBMITTING REVIEW WITH RATINGS LESS THAN 3 STARS. MY ACTUAL RATING WAS 2 STARS ONLY We booked our travel through Namaskaram Travels for 4 Nights and 5 Days. Want to rate this trip 2* due to following reasons:- 1. We have specifically asked for Innova having

continuous seats in the middle as we were 6 adults and 1 child. That is 7+1 seater Innova. But we were provided 6+1 Innova seater. Due to this, we faced extreme level of INCONVENIENCE and UNCOMFORT during our whole journey. On the very first day, we complained about this during pickup from airport. The SPOC Neha from Namaskaram Travels told us that they will provide requested car next day and we just have to adjust with this car for one day. But that 7+1 seater car was never provided during our whole trip despite of multiple reminders. Everytime we were told that they will provide a new car but that never happened and we had to cramp up in that car uncomfortably. Please be aware that 60-70% of your trip will be spent in the car for transit. 2. We specifically asked for King size beds in resort and during booking, we were told that all hotels are booked with King size beds. But all the hotels were booked with Queen size beds 3. The Patio hotel booked in Thekkady was not good. The hotel was like a dormitory and rooms were very small. Normal toiletries like dental kit, etc. which are normally provided in every good hotel was not available. They were chargeable. 4. Food was not adequate and was in less quantity in houseboat Pros: Cab driver Swaminathan as a person was good and was trying his best for the travel Overall, won't recommend from my side
