About Sri Mariamman Temple in Singapore

The oldest Hindu temple in Singapore, Sri Mariamman Temple was built back in the year 1827 by Naraina Pilai. The temple is commonly referred to as Mariamman Kovil. Showcasing a very vivid style of Dravidian architecture, the temple also happens to be the country’s most-visited temples because of its religious significance, lively exteriors and its amazing architecture. Dedicated to Goddess Mariamman, the goddess believed to be the one to bless the devotees with the cure of epidemic illnesses and diseases.

The gate of the temple or gopuram, decorated with sculptures of Gods, Goddesses and mythological beasts is a sight to behold. As a result of its architectural and historical importance, Sri Mariamman temple Singapore has been included as a National Monument on the 6th of July, 1973. There are also other free-standing shrines with decorated dome roofs belonging to Goddess Durga, Lord Ganesha and Lord Shiva. Draupadi’s shrine is the second most shrine in the Sri Mariamman temple to the left of which reside the Pandavas presided over by Lord Krishna. The free-standing flagpole is another important aspect of the temple. On every major festival or ritual ceremonies, a flag is raised here on this flag pole. Do visit the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Singapore whenever you get a chance to be here and feel graced with its divinity and spiritual ambience.

    We booked our Singapore and KL trip from 2nd till 12th June through Travel Triangle. They assigned us couple of their partners/ Travel agents to help us get comparative quotes. Apart from Travel Triangle we spoke to few other online and offline travel agencies but found agents recommended by TT mo
    re knowledgeable and prompt. We finally decided to close with TT partner Plan My Leisure (PML) despite getting lower quotes from other agents. Ms. Varsha was our point of contact at PML, We are truly grateful to her for arranging everything extremely meticulously. She was always available to answer any query, she took extra efforts in helping me get good airfare at my preferred timings. We negotiated the package cost but once we agreed we are happy that there were no hidden or surprise charges. Even when we were in Singapore and KL she always ensured that pickups, hotel check-ins, visits everything is hassle free. In Singapore we stayed in Hilton on Orchard Road and in KL we stayed in Grand Millennium both were good hotels at very good locations.     No, there is no such thing. Though the deities and sculptures inside the temple belong to Hindu Gods but the gates of the temple are open for people belonging to all religions.

    Though the temple has shrines of many Hindu Gods and Goddesses, the main shrine belongs to Goddess Mariamman. After this comes the shrine of Draupadi in essence.
