How to Reach Hakgala Botanical Garden in Nuwara Eliya

If you are planning to visit here, then knowing how to reach Hakgala Botanical Garden will make your travel comfortable and hassle-free. One can reach Nuwara Eliya either by air, road or rail and from there a local auto rickshaw or bus will be a good option. Nuwara Eliya is known as the ‘Little England’ and is well-connected to the capital city, Colombo. The best way to reach Nuwara Eliya is by boarding a flight from Colombo to Bandaranaike International Airport and then take a cab to this highland paradise.

If you are planning to go to Nuwara Eliya by train, then get down at Nanu Oya railway station which is nearly 10 km from Nuwara Eliya. The road en route is via Kandy and Hatton, however, the conditions of these roads are not very good and might spoil the excitement of your journey. After reaching Nuwara Eliya, one can take an auto rickshaw, cab or even rent a bicycle to this Nuwara Eliya Botanical Garden.

By Air:

If you are boarding a plane from Colombo to Bandaranaike International Airport which is the nearest airport to Hakgala Botanical Garden, your travel time will be 3h 30m, including the flight journey of 1h 20m. One can take a taxi to the botanical garden which will take nearly 2 hours.

By Rail:

If you are taking a train from Colombo, then the travel time will be nearly 7h 15m. You will be reaching Nanu Oya in 6h 20m from where you can reach the botanical garden in the next 50-55 minutes via auto rickshaw or taxi.

By Road:

Your road journey depends on the destination from where you are heading for this garden. However, an excursion to Hakgala Botanical Garden via road might be a little tiring if you are traveling with kids and elderly people.

We have been TravelTriangeling since last 4 trips abroad. That's because of its vast network of service providers. Srilanka was planned 3 yrs back, but the economic crises there held us from moving on. It happened again and we do carry great memories from this trip. The agency Romano Lanka and its

coordinator Mrs Minasha was were very helpful. Though, we gave them though time planning and re-planning again and again,.she didn't budge and planned well. My suggestion to future travellers. Never hold back from tasting authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, they are always best available in very local and not so fancy restaurants. Our village safari was where we tasted the best food. Thanks to the old ladies there for their expertise. It would be very convenient if the travel planners include the entry fees for every visiting places, each and every visiting places mandatorily charge entry fees. Paying every time feels very costly. The season we visited was pre monsoon, but thank god it didn't effect our trip. Thanks to TT and Minasha Cultural dance at Kandy was hair raising. Spice garden, Cave temple, Sigaria rock, Sacred tooth relic and the beaches were just awesome and enchanted.
